In the 1950s, as Mérida embraced modernism, someone decided to look back. On the extension of Paseo de Montejo—right where the original avenue ends—they erected a mansion that paid homage to the Porfirian-era houses that gave this city its own splendor, the same splendor that earned it the nickname "the Mexican Champs-Élysées." A couple of kilometers away, the Palacio Cantón still stands as a witness to that same era.
It wasn't a house of its time. It was a house in someone's memory. In 2016, someone looked at it again. Not to change it, but to give back what time had taken away.
Today, it is Delfina. A mansion and art gallery where the walls don't merely guard the past—they converse with it.
